The Apps Challenge competition was introduced by MTN to help harness local talents in application development. It is also to help build strong affinity with the developer community and provide an opportunity for developers to market their content via MTN platforms.

The five categories to be awarded prizes this year are Internet of Things (IoTs), Mobile Apps, Animated Videos, Best Female Project Developer and the KatAppult Initiative.

The roadshows were four-prong affairs that comprised digital fairs; presentations on MTN Apps Challenge Version 5.0, panel discussions and
break-out sessions.

Each roadshow began with a digital fair where various apps and animated videos were displayed. This sessions allowed participants to interact with the app developers.

Presentations were made by MTN representatives on details and categories of the current competition. Participants also learnt about how they could register for the contest.

The panel discussions centred on the topic: “Is it time to move from brick and mortar Institutions? How Digital technologies are revolutionizing your way of life”. The discussions were facilitated by a moderator with time allocated for questions from the audience.

During the workshop-styled break-out sessions, participants were divided into four groups with each group discussing topics in the tech space. These sessions were led by resource persons.

Sources at MTN indicated that the roadshows which were live-streamed with about 10,000 viewers around the world, went extremely well and it is hoped all stakeholders in the contest would continue to offer the same level of cooperation till the end of the competition by the middle of this year.

Prizes for the various categories in the contest range between GHȻ10,000 and GHȻ20,000.
