MP starts mentorship programme for young girls
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kwabre East Constituency, Ms Francisca Oteng-Mensah has started a mentorship programme to encourage more women to aspire for leadership roles.

Currently, she said five women from her constituency were taking part in the programme to aspire for leadership roles, noting that it was an effort to increase the number of women holding leadership positions in the country.
In an interview with Daily Graphic in Accra last Tuesday, Ms Oteng-Mensah challenged young leaders to move from their comfort zone with confidence to aspire for leadership positions, pointing out that nothing was built on a silver platter; therefore they should use the strength they have to attain what they want in life.

Ms Oteng-Mensah explained that the mentorship programme would be implemented in such a way that those who benefitted from itwould also mentor others.
“ I got this vision when I started getting calls after I won the primary where some young ladies told me they would want to be like me, but some do not have the courage while others do not have the financial resources so I decided to mentor the ones who were focused and give them a financial push to attain their dreams,” she disclosed.
Sharing her experiences as the youngest parliamentarian in the country and being her first tenure in office, she mentioned that it had not been easy so far because she had to visit her constituency to build contacts and also get adequate resources to organise some mentorship and empowerment programmes for them.
“It is very challenging due to the fact that people still have the notion that women cannot perform and excel in their leadership role, and some have the wrong perception that I can never perform as a young graduate,” she said.
Ms Oteng-Mensah is the youngest Member of Parliament (MP) since the inception of the Fourth Republic.
