Moves to reconcile Nkonya, Alavanyo

However, they said the resolution of the conflict would depend on the ability of the stakeholders to establish the truth in the land dispute between the two traditional areas.

The two sides have been engaged in a dispute over ownership of a portion of land since 1923.

Recently, four people, two each from either side, were killed as a result of the dispute.

A joint military and police task force has been deployed in the two areas to ensure security, law and order.

The new Volta Regional Minister, Mr Laryea Afotey Agbo, who assumed office yesterday, chaired the meeting.

He took over from Ms Helen Ntoso, who was first appointed as Volta Regional Minister but later posted to the Eastern Region.

A short handing over ceremony was held yesterday for the new regional minister to take over the administration of the region.

Ms Ntoso expressed confidence in Mr Afotey Agbo and said with his roots as a royal he would be able to bring his wisdom and experience to bear on resolving some of the conflict such as the one between the people of Alavanyo and Nkonya.

She prayed for God’s guidance for him to enable him to steer the affairs of the region and bring development to the region.

For his part, Mr Agbo called for cooperation from the chiefs and people of the region in order to achieve the better Ghana agenda, adding that it was pertinent for all to maintain all the factors needed for orderly development.

He expressed the hope that with the cooperation from all, the region would breathe a new change that would engender development.
