When Graphic Online visited the station on Sunday afternoon armed policemen had been brought in to guard against further attacks.

“They beat some of us with sticks,” one policeman said.

Another police source they were informed that the mob was advancing towards the police station. “Within minutes they were on site throwing stones and vandalizing with sticks chanting war songs.”

The source said unarmed policemen were being chased. “They were armed with pistols and they were firing.”

“They took us by surprise, we had to call for reinforcement to contain the situation.”

No arrest has been made yet.

Meanwhile, the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditonal area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II who came to the police station to assess the situation appealed to the police to use tact in ensuring that the situation did not escalate.

He advised the communities against any further attacks on the police.
