Ministry of Education reviews ICT in education policy to address current educational needs
The Ministry of Education has embarked on a comprehensive review of its ICT in Education Policy. The review has become necessary to address evolving challenges within the educational sector.
This initiative, supported by key development partners including UNICEF, UNESCO, and World Vision International, aims to improve ICT infrastructure in schools, sharpen the digital skills of educators and leverage ICT to improve education management.

The review process began with an impact assessment to evaluate the effectiveness of the existing policy. Insights from this assessment informed the development of the new draft policy.
The Ministry then conducted extensive stakeholder engagements across the country to gather diverse perspectives and refine the policy further.
According to Mr. Peter Tettey, the policy Lead and Principal Programme Officer for STEM Education, the review is currently in the final phase, focusing on developing a robust monitoring and evaluation framework as well as a budgetary framework.
Mr. Tettey also acknowledged Dr. Emmanuel Owusu-Oware and Dr. Ben Ocra as two Consultants who have been very instrumental in the policy review process.
“Once we finalise the policy document we will go through the necessary approval processes and have it officially launched,” Mr. Tettey explained, adding, “Our goal is to see improved ICT integration into the curriculum, instructional delivery and assessment, ultimately producing digitally skilled 21st-Century learners in our education system.
The review workshop took place at Sunlodge Hotel in Tesano, Accra, from November 25 to 27, 2024, with high expectations for the new policy. Once rolled out, the policy is expected to significantly improve education management and delivery in Ghana.
