Minister intervenes to end agitation of Newmont mine workers

According to Mr Victor Smith, the management of the companies and Newmont as well as the workers needed each other, and as such they should always co-exist in peace.

He said it was the duty of the sub-contractors and Newmont to give what was due to the workers, who should also resort to dialogue to address any grievances instead of resorting to violence which he said would not be in the interest of both parties, especially the workers.

“Although you have your grievances, resorting to violence will not be in the interest of both management and workers due to the possibility of the company leaving the area with no job left for workers, and it is in this vein that I plead with all of you to respect one another for peaceful co-existence”, Mr Victor Smith stated.
