Methodist Church in USA supports orphanage at Akwatia
Members of Immanuel Methodist Church in Manchester in Connecticut, United States of America (USA), have donated food items, assorted soap and an amount of GH¢4,000 cash to Our Faith of God Foundation Orphanage at Akwatia in the Eastern Region.

A leading member of the church, Nana Okoda Darko, and his wife, Mrs Vida Safo Darko, made the presentation on behalf of the church at Akwatia.
Rationale
Nana Darko, who is also the Gyaasehene of Akyem Kusi near Kade, explained that when he visited the orphanage recently, he was touched by the plight of the children and the efforts by management of the orphanage to improve their lot.
He said on his return to the USA, he contacted the leadership of the church led by Rev. Thomas Ofori, Mr Dominic Andoh, Ms Ruby Abrompah and Mrs Vida Safo Darko, who raised GH¢5,500 from the church members to assist the orphanage.
Nana Darko appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and well-to-do individuals to assist in educating the children who were attending various schools so that they would grow up to become responsible citizens.
Appreciation
The proprietress of the orphanage, Madam Janet Oppong, who received the items, expressed appreciation to their benefactors and promised to put them to good use.
She said as an orphan herself, she recounted the difficulties she went through throughout her infancy before reaching her present stage and, therefore, decided to establish the orphanage to support orphans who needed both maternal care and material assistance.
Madam Oppong also appealed to philanthropists and the government to help her complete a 10-bedroom house facility to accommodate the orphans.
