Adiku pleaded not guilty to the charge of issuing a dud cheque, contrary to Section 313 (A) (1) of Act 29/60, prompting the trial judge to remand him until July 4.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Ofori-Asante told the court, presided over by Mr N. K. E. Osam, that in April this year, Adiku and Awuku met and struck a business deal at Agona Swedru, where the former issued the latter with two  cheques dated April 16 and April 19, 2013 respectively.

According to the prosecutor, the face value of the cheques was GH¢20,000 each and they were meant to cover part of the GH¢130,000 deal they struck.

ASP Ofori-Asante said when Awuku later went to cash the cheques at the bank, both cheques bounced.

According to ASP Ofori-Asante, Awuku, therefore, caused Adiku’s arrest.

Adiku, the prosecutor said, later made a verbal promise to the police that he would defray the debt, and this prompted the police to release him on bail.

According to ASP Ofori-Asante, on the same day Adiku was released, he again issued another  cheque dated May 14, 2013 for GH¢8000 but that cheque also bounced and Awuku caused his arrest again.

ASP Ofori-Asante said on May 21, 2013 the police charged Adiku for court only for him to make part payment of GH¢50,000 in addition to the issuance of another cheque for GH¢60,000 dated June 17, 2013, which also bounced.

ASP Ofori-Asante said Adiku’s behaviour showed clearly that he intentionally issued those dud cheques, knowing very well that he had no money in his account.
