The items were seized at Ngalekpole and Baku near Atuabo on Monday.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in charge of the Aiyinase Marine Police Training School, Mr Emmanuel Addae, who led the operation, informed the Ghana News Agency  about the seizure at the sidelines of a two-day training workshop on Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) Toolkits.

The event was organised by the Jomoro District Assembly in collaboration with Friends of the Nation (FoN), an environmental non-governmental organisation, with support from STAR Ghana.

The workshop sought to prioritise climate change and coastal resources management, as well as assess community-needs and develop a participatory planning process to address coastal resource management.

Mr Addae said the police had been in the communities monitoring the activities of fisher folk in order to enforce the fisheries laws.

He said two years after sensitising fisher folk in the coastal communities, to the Fisheries laws. some of them were still using the unapproved nets, hence the seizure.

The marine police and the Fisheries Commission, he said, would not relent in their effort and entreated the public to co-operate with them to ensure sanity in the fishing industry.
