Management of NLA supports unionisation of staff

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has declared its commitment and support for efforts by the staff to unionise.

The management of the authority, under the leadership of its Director-General, Mr Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, received guidelines and rules governing the Standing Negotiation Committees (SNC) from three separate unions on February 12, this year.

The unions are the Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance (UNICOF); Industrial and Commercial Workers' Union Ghana (ICU) and the Financial Business and Services Employees Union (FBSEU).

A statement, signed by the Public Relations Unit of the NLA, said the three unions were currently doing their possible best to unionise staff of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

It said separate meetings were held between the management of the NLA and the unions on February 12, 13 and 14 under the chairmanship of Mr Osei-Ameyaw.

The statement said further that guidelines and rules of the Standing Negotiation Committee from the three unions had been signed and adopted.

Requirements

“As part of the process, it is expected that the three unions shall furnish the NLA with copies of their List and Verification Forms signed by staff of the authority legitimising deduction of union dues from their monthly salaries,” it said.

The statement said so far, none of the three unions had completed the process of unionisation or fulfilled all the criteria in relation to the bargaining power to negotiate on behalf of staff of the authority.

It said, however, that the NLA would do everything possible to ensure that unionisation of its staff was smooth and successful.

“The NLA will cooperate fully and wholly with all relevant stakeholders in the processes to have it unionised,” it said.
