Nyarko has been charged with murder but his plea was not taken when he appeared before an Accra Magistrate Court presided over by Mr James Kojo Bota.

Esther was represented by her younger sister who witnessed the beatings she received from Nyarko the day she died.

Presenting the facts of the case, Chief inspector Yeboah said the deceased; Esther, a baker lived with Nyarko at Iron City, Kasoa.

Nyarko, who had been in a relationship with Esther for six years, was said to be in the habit of beating her at will. As a result of the abuse, Esther decided to end the relationship which she communicated to Nyarko.

According to Chief Inspector Yeboah, Nyarko was not happy with Esther’s decision which further worsened their relationship.  On February 13, 2016 at about 6.30 p.m, Esther and her younger sister were on their way home when they met Nyarko.

Inspector Yeboah told the court that Nyarko without any provocation pounced on the deceased and assaulted her mercilessly until eye witnesses came to her rescue.

On reaching home at about 7.30 p.m, Nyarko once again pounced on Esther and gave her severe beatings.

Inspector Yeboah said in the process, Nyarko stabbed Esther four times with a kitchen knife, twice in the left ribs, the right thigh and left armpit. Esther was rushed to a Kasoa hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.

When Nyarko realised Esther had died, he attempted to end his own life by cutting his throat but the police arrived at the scene and arrested him for investigation.

Mr Bota commended the Police for their timely intervention. Nyarko has been charged with murder and remanded in prison custody for two weeks pending investigations.
