Man, 50, robbed of church cash, killed in daylight

A 50-year old office assistant of the Bantama Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church met his untimely death last Tuesday, June 30, 2020 when he was shot by suspected armed robbers in broad daylight in front of the church.

Mark Amofa was shot several times by the robbers who were on motorbikes after they robbed him of an amount of GH¢4,200.

Mr Amofa allegedly shouted for help after he was robbed of the amount just in front of his church and it seems the shout for help angered the robbers who shot him before running away.

Errands

Mr Amofa had been running errands for the church, including assisting the treasurer of the church, and he was sent to withdraw the said amount from the Abrepo Junction branch of Ecobank.

Due to the short distance from the church to the bank, he trekked to the bank and it was when he was about to enter the church premises that he was accosted by the robbers who were on a motorbike.

The first group of two robbers took the money from him and took off and that was when he shouted for help, screaming “thieves, thieves!”

The shout for help angered the second group of two who were also on a motorbike and they shot him.

Clerk

The Clerk to the church, Mr Stephen Boakye, who confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic, said Mr Amofa was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

He said he left behind three children.

The Suame District Police Commander, Superintendent Twum Barima, who corroborated the story, said the police were on a manhunt for the suspects and they believed that the robbers followed the deceased from the bank to church before robbing him.
