The official results of Election 2012 given out by the electoral commision of ghana

Prior to the declaration of the results, officials of the EC, the National Peace Council (NPC), the NDC and the NPP had engaged in discussions behind closed doors to resolve some disagreements over the results.

The meeting was at the instance of the NPC, following complaints made by the NPP about what the party described as discrepancies in figures collated at some of the constituencies, which undermined the integrity of the election.

He said the EC, however, felt that time was of essence and the evidence provided by the NPP was not enough to warrant a postponement of the declaration of a winner as requested by the NPP.

Most Rev Prof Asante said the consensus was that the NPP had every right to use the proper channel through the court to seek redress.

“In the meantime, when the results come in, the Chairman of the Electoral Commission will announce the results to the nation”, he said.

“We are using this channel to appeal to all Ghanaians that they should not allow themselves to be incited to do anything untoward to the peace of our country. After all, what is it that we are looking for; we are looking for a peaceful country, peaceful nation. As we seek justice and redress through the proper channel, let us maintain the bond of peace and the bond of unity in our country”, he added.

The Most Rev Prof Asante also appealed to the media, particularly radio and television stations, not to say things that would incite people.

He said after the results had been announced, victors must be sensitive to the feelings of those who might have lost.

“After all, Ghana has won; it is not individuals who have won. Let us all together unite and move Ghana forward. Let there be peace in our country”, he stated.
