This year’s camp takes place at the Christian Village, near Opoku Ware School at Santase in Kumasi, from July 17 to 24, 2013.

The Director of Camp Ghana, Mrs Florence Yeboah-Asare, told the Daily Graphic that the Kumasi camp would be a week of friendship and fun for participants, some of whom would be away from home for the first time in their lives.

Mrs Yeboah-Asare indicated that camping afforded children the opportunity to come into contact with people from other parts of the country and experience the culture and traditions of those people.

“Camping affords children the opportunity to experience at first-hand what they study in their Life Skills class,” she said.

The director added that she would bring her experience in past camping activities and past association with camps in the United States (US) to bear on the Kumasi camp, which she declared would be a dream camp for the participants.

She said during the period of the camp the children would be taken to places of interest in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region, including the Manhyia Palace, Lake Bosomtwe, the Bobiri Forest and Butterfly Sanctuary, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the Kumasi Centre for National Culture.

Mrs Yeboah-Asare added that the children would also engage in sporting activities, cultural drumming and dancing, art and craft.

She said to secure the health of the participants, there would be a doctor on call from the moment they departed Accra for the camp until they arrived back in Accra and invited parents to give their children the opportunity to experience life outside the home.
