Little Rahman needs support

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Orthopaedic Training Centre (OTC) at Nsawam in the Eastern Region, Ms Gloria Williston, has made a passionate appeal to institutions, governmental and non-governmental organisations, corporate societies, philanthropists, as well as individuals and well-meaning Ghanaians to support the treatment of a 13-year-old boy, Abdulai Rahman, a patient at the centre.

Rahman, who is suffering from multiple tumours in both legs and currently paralysed, needs not less than $8,000 or GH¢35,000 to be able to walk. She made the appeal when Kids @ Heart Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) visited the centre recently.

Virtue of giving

The visit, a collaboration with M& Bee, a youth group at Nii Boyeman in Accra, was aimed among other things to teach children the virtue of giving to the needy, marginalised and less privileged people and orphans.

According to Ms Williston, patients at the centre came with different ailments including injuries sustained from road and industrial accidents, domestic negligence and problem from the coastal areas of the country.

She said the centre, which was established by Bro Tarcisius De Ruyter of the Societas Verbi Divine (SVD), “had done a lot for the nation and it was time Ghanaians showed appreciation by showing more interest through voluntary contributions towards treatment of patients, especially situations like that of little Rahman.”

Society’s acceptance

Ms Williston, who is also the Manager in charge of fund-raising at the centre, said the facility had done a lot for the nation since it was established, with the treatment of people with various forms of physical disabilities and society needed to accept such people without any form of discrimination whatsoever.

The President of Kids @ Heart Foundation, Dr Matilda Adda said the group, mostly women, would always wish to make the kids happy, adding “this is a pilot one and more will be rolled out next year’’.

The president and the other members of the group pledged to help raise funds for the treatment of little Rahman and called on well wishers to contact 0268339092 for further direction.
