Rev. Charles Oppong-Poku, Senior Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, Sunyani, gave the advice at the inauguration of the church’s teens’ Ministry last Sunday.

He said there was gross indiscipline in the country and the youth were bowing to peer pressure, and adults need to give very good direction to these young ones, who are the nation’s greatest assets.

Rev. Oppong-Poku explained that the involvement of the youth with the adults in church services and activities, make the latter gross over them, without the needed attention, hence the need to group them at their level, and nurture them properly into the Christian faith. This, according to the Senior Pastor, would enable them become worth ambassadors of Christ, and responsible citizens for the nation.

He, therefore, urged parents, teachers, the clergy, political and traditional leaders to lead lives worth of emulation or order to reverse the current social disorder into a more disciplined and responsible human resource, needed to propel and sustain the growth and development of the nation.

Delivering the inaugural sermon, on the theme, “Making a mark in serving God in my time,” the Partnership, Development and Research Officer of the Ghana Baptist Convention, Rev Isaac Asante Agyei, urged the youth to study the life of David in Biblical days and try to follow suit.

He said David was one young man who served the Lord and his household diligently and thus grew to become a great statesman and won the hearts of his people and more specially, endeared himself so much to the Lord God Almighty.

Rev Asante Agyei, therefore, charged the youth to make the best out of the time because the days are evil. He urged them to use their time, energy and resources to serve Ghana and all mankind.

The inaugural service was preceded by a parade of 20 contingents drawn from the Church’s Royal Ambassadors (RA) and the Girls’ Auxillary (GA) groups. In attendance was the Ghana National Fire Service Band led by A.S.O. Quarshie Gidiglo.

Members of the Teens’ Ministry were later led by Rev Oppong-Poku to pledge their loyalty to Christ and the church.
