She died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KTH) after a difficult battle with cancer.

Her remains were buried at the Awudome Cemetery last Monday.

Her teary mother thanked the Graphic Needy Fund, individuals and institutions for donating towards her treatment.

Background

Latifa was first seen by the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, where she was diagnosed with eye cancer and went through chemotherapy as the first phase of treatment.

According to her parents, she had to go through a second phase of radiation to complete the treatment but they did not have money, so they took her home, which led to complications that saw her left eye becoming sore and bulging.

The Graphic Needy Fund took up her case and brought her to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KTH) for treatment, with the support of generous donors.

Latifa initially responded well to treatment and joined the KTH Cancer nursery school with her twin sister but she relapsed and died after almost four months of intensive care.
