Kuenyehia Art Trust appoints trustees

The Kuenyehia Trust for Contemporary Art (the Kuenyehia Trust) has appointed a new board of trustees for a two-year term.

A statement issued in Accra by the trust said the eight-member board was selected after a rigorous and extensive search process.

A Finance Executive at pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, Mr Eli Kumekpor, co-chairs the trust with the Head of Operations of law firm ENSAfrica Ghana, Ms Thelma Tawiah.

Ms Tawiah, a lawyer, has been a trustee since the trust started in 2014. Mr Kumekpor and Ms Tawiah take over from the previous Chairperson, Mr Senyo Kwasi Deh.

The statement named other trustees as Ms Ruka Sanusi, the Founder of management consulting firm Alldens Lane and Executive Director of the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre; Ms Afia Adutwumwaa Owusu-

Afriyie, the acting Managing Trustee and Chief of Staff of the Family Office of Elikem Nutifafa Kuenyehia.

The rest are Ms Ayesha Bedwei, Tax Partner, PwC Ghana; Mr Paul Payne, Manager of the Skills and Innovation Centre at the British Council, Ghana; Mr Larry Amponsah, an artist and Abraaj RCA Innovation Scholar, the Royal College of Art, London, and Ms Agnes Allotey, the Head of Strategic Partnerships, BIMA.

Background

Set up in 2014 under the patronage of Nana Kobina Nketsiah IV, the Kuenyehia Trust seeks to promote and advance contemporary art, with particular emphasis on Ghanaian and African origin.

The flagship programme of the trust, – The Kuenyehia Prize for Contemporary Ghanaian Art – is globally recognised as the most prestigious indigenous art prize in Ghana.

In addition to prize money, shortlisted and winning artists are provided tailored coaching and mentoring, business development and visibility through exhibitions and publications.

The call for the fourth season of the prize is currently open till December 2017, with new prize money of GH¢35,000 to be won.

The statement said the trust also ran a thought leadership programme to engage and educate the wider community on art and also engage in a number of initiatives to create a vibrant market for artists.
