Krobo: Over 90 per cent provided with ECG prepaid meters

Over 90 per cent of households in the Krobo area of the Eastern Region have been provided with prepaid electric power meters.

This has helped to increase revenue generation by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) from the area with revenue generation now hovering around 80 per cent in terms of the electric power supplied in the area.

Previously, the ECG was raising only 5 per cent from revenue in terms of power supplied in the area due to non payment because of the post paid system. Besides that ECG staff were not getting free access to customers homes to read meters.

The District Manager for the ECG Krobo Office, Christopher Apawu, who made this known indicated that almost 35,000 prepaid meters have been installed in the District since the beginning of the prepaid meter installation project in 2022.

And that is what translates to the about 90 per cent coverage of prepaid meters in the area.

He was speaking on Somanya-based Rite FM, as part of a general education on ECG operations and services.

Mr Apawu indicated that, as with all projects, the prepaid meter installation is done in phases, area after area and it is an ongoing ECG operational activity.

The aim of the organisation is to eventually provide prepaid meters to all customers in all its operational areas.

He advised the public on the use of Energy Commission certified electricians and to avoid using substandard cables for their wiring works.
