Kofi Annan burial: Police announce 3-day road closure

The Ghana Police Service has announced the temporary closure and diversion of two streets in Accra ahead of the funeral and burial service of the late former United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan.

According to a statement signed by the Director-General, Public Affairs, ACP David Eklu the affected roads; Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on the Lokko Street (Road) and the Castle road (from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light) will be closed between Tuesday, September 11 to Thursday, September 13, 2018.

The statement further advised motorists plying the Lokko Street to use the Ajumaku and Oxford Streets at alternative routes while traffic from the AU Circle has been diverted unto the Abdul Diouf and King Hassan roads.

"As we honor the life and mourn the loss of an illustrious son of our land, the general public is implored to take note of these traffic arrangements and cooperate with the police to ensure effective traffic management," the statement said.

"Any inconveniences caused by these arrangements are deeply regretted".

The statement added that unmarked vehicles would not be permitted to park or drive through the blockades while security vehicles and other vehicles carrying dignitaries would only be granted access after thorough checks.

Meanwhile, traffic police officers would be at post to assist motorists.
