The bi-weekly newspaper will, among things, highlight development projects and programmes and other activities at the assembly, and seek public input to enhance the governance process of the assembly.

To be distributed freely to individuals, institutions and the foreign missions, among others, the newspaper is one of the initiatives of the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Kojo Bonsu, to sell Ghana’s second largest city and invite both local and foreign investors to invest in the metropolis.

Launching the newspaper, Mr Bonsu said although the preoccupation of the Kumasiano was to advance the development of Kumasi, it will also (in line with the dictates of journalism) entertain, inform and educate its readers on a wide range of issues.

“The newspaper promises to make its readers the focus of its day-to-day operations by publishing facts and thought-provoking information that can be fully relied on,” he said.

He also expressed the hope that the newspaper would help to bring governance closer to the people of Kumasi.

The MCE stated that the publication of the newspaper would be financed through advertisements.

He stated that a number of development projects were in the pipeline to uplift the image of Kumasi.

Mr Bonsu called for co-operation from the people as he worked to bring Kumasi to its deserved state.
