The immediate past Bishop of the Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church, Rt Rev. Prof. Osei Sarfo-Kantanka, who is also a preacher on a Sunday Church programme (Church Bells) on Kessben FM, assisted by the host of the programme, Mr Sammy Adu-Boakye, on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kessben Group of Companies, Mr Stephen Boateng aka Kwabena Kesse, handed over the project to the hospital last Tuesday.

History

Giving the background to the project, Mr Adu-Boakye said while hosting the show one day, a Paediatrician at KATH, Dr Asafo-Adjei, put in a request that the unit needed financial support for the treatment of an eight-year-old girl who had sustained serious burns while preparing porridge.

When the picture of the girl was shown to Mr Stephen Boateng (Kessben), he agreed that the radio station be used to solicit funds for the child’s treatment and rehabilitation.

Mr Adu-Boakye said a few days later, Mr Boateng enquired from him the condition of the child, after which he instructed his accountant to prepare a cheque to cover the bills of the girl and the other seven patients also on admission at the unit.

Mr Adu-Boakye said after paying the bills, Dr Asafo-Adjei pleaded with the Kessben Group to help refurbish the unit, which Mr Boateng agreed to do.

Commendation

Mr Adu-Boakye commended listeners of his programme for supporting a worthy cause with their contributions.

He, on behalf of Mr Boateng, presented a cheque for GH¢5,000 to the father of the child, Akwasi Adams, to support her rehabilitation.

Rt Rev. Prof. Sarfo-Kantanka, while thanking Mr Boateng, urged the management of the hospital to also find other alternatives to mobilise funds to support their
operations.
