Investor appeals to Asantehene

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu IIMr Kojo Ajai, a Kumasi- based investor, has appealed  to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to intervene in the controversy over the ownership of a 1.86 - acre plot at Adako-Jachie, near Kumasi.

The Asantehene’s timely intervention, he believes, would help save the situation from degenerating into violence.

Mr Ajai indicated that he was making the special appeal to the Asantehene for a quick resolution of the controversy in view of his unique position as the custodian of all lands in Asante, keen interest in promoting investments in Ashanti in particular and the country as a whole and his unquestionable quest for justice and fairness at all times.

The land, titled “Kumasi Plot No. 1 Block ‘O’ –Adako-Jachie”, is said to have been acquired by Mr Ajai from the Adako-Jachie Stool last year for a hotel venture.

However, a lady, Afua Boatemaa, also claiming ownership of the plot, has allegedly caused parts of a wall erected by Mr Ajai around the plot to be pulled dwon and dumped heaps of sand on the land, in preparation to develop it.

Reporters who inspected the plot in the company of Mr Ajai at the weekend saw workers suspected to have been hired by the woman busily moulding blocks, although about 20,000 blocks belonging to Mr Ajai had been packed on it.

According to Mr Ajai, he had in his possession all the necessary documents covering the land capped with a 50-year lease dated February, 22, 2013 and duly signed by the Asantehene and Nana Osei Bosompem III, chief of Adako-Jachie.

He explained that the encroachment had compelled him to seek redress at a Kumasi High Court, presided over by Mr Justice Robin B. Batu.

An interim injunction order granted by the court on July 11, 2013, restraining Afua Boatemaa from engaging in any activity of construction and development on the land until otherwise ordered is, however, being flouted.

Mr Ajai suspects that the woman is perpetrating the encroachment with the subtle backing of some key personalities in Kumasi.

When contacted, Nana Bosompem declined to comment, saying, “the matter is before the Asantehene”.
