The fair, scheduled for September 22 to 27,2015 at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre in Accra, is expected to attract over 100 exhibitors from Ghana, Nigeria, South-Africa, some European and other countries.

The week-long event is aimed at rebranding Ghana by using tourism as one of the key drivers for sustainable economic development.
Activities lined up for the fair include exhibition, arts and crafts sale, musical tourism, opening of tourism village and cultural performances.

Among other benefits, the fair is expected to reposition Ghana as a competitive destination for business, investment and tourism.

Tourism promotion

In a speech read on her behalf to launch the conference, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu- Adjare, explained that tourism had been recognised as one of the fundamental tools to create jobs for small enterprises, foster investments and generate foreign exchange.

She said currently, the private sector had taken its rightful position in the development and promotion of the country to assume the status of the most preferred tourism and creative hub in the sub-region.

“The normal phenomena are that, tourism is government-led, but private sector driven,” she said.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare remarked that the private sector was the engine of growth in the economy of every country, hence the need for initiatives such as that of RAJ Multimedia.

She added that the country could re-position itself as the African tourism hub by re-directing aviation traffic from Asia, Europe and America to Ghana.

Fair and exhibition

In his address, the Chief Executive Officer of RAJ Multimedia, Mr Suraj Dean, said the organisation initiated the concept to bring about new innovation in the promotion of tourism.

He urged the media and the public at large to support the crusade to promote Ghana’s tourism industry to create more jobs for the youth.
