Interior Minister tours VR
The Minister of the Interior, Mr Mark Woyongo, has called on security agencies operating on the country’s borders to tighten security at their various posts.

That, he said, was necessary to prevent the infiltration of Fulani herdsmen and dissidents into the country illegally.
“Be extra vigilant especially in this period that some countries in the sub-regions would be holding their elections so that such people do not take advantage and enter the country illegally”, Mr woyongo said.
He further urged the security personnel, particularly the patrol teams, to get to the ground and pick up useful information by collaborating with civilians, for the protection of the country.
Familiarisation tour
Mr Woyongo made the call when he paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso, and some security heads at the beginning of a four-day tour of the region last Monday.
The Interior Minister was briefed on the recent security problems in the region, including a recent invasion of some Fulani herdsmen from Nigeria, who entered the country through unapproved routes with the intention of settling in the Krachi-Nchumuru District.
Making specific reference to the upcoming election in Nigeria, Mr Woyongo said he believed many more of the Fulanis would attempt to migrate to Ghana through illegal routes and, therefore, asked that the security agencies be extra vigilant.
On the infiltration of Fulanis into the country, Mr Woyongo said it was time their operations were looked at holistically and streamlined otherwise, they would devastate the environment.
“We should have a data on all Fulani herdsmen in the country, the number of cattle they have and at least make them pay levies to the various assemblies”, he suggested.
Nkonya/Alavanyo
Mr Woyongo said the Volta Region had been generally peaceful but in recent times, he had received complaints of robberies in the Aflao area and asked the security heads to deploy more personnel to the area.
On the Nkonya/Alavanyo conflict, the minister noted that the misunderstanding could be resolved only through dialogue.
He, therefore, urged the Volta Regional Coordinating Council and the chiefs of Alavanyo and Nkonya to use dialogue to settle the conflict.
Ms Ntoso said the police had worked hard in the past few weeks to clamp down on criminal activities in the region.
