According to the workers, the management have refused to pay the Provident Fund (PF) of the workers, neither have they increased their salaries for the past 10 years, although the managing director has allegedly increased his salary twice within the period.

They have, therefore, decided to lay down their tools until all their concerns are addressed by management.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic at the start of the strike last Wednesday, Mr Hope Kofi Klu, an accountant with the company, said even though they had received payment advice on their Provident Fund three months ago, the money had not been paid.

Deaf  Ears

He said what was even discouraging and annoying was that management had turned deaf ears to the workers’constant pleas to them to pay the money.

Additionally, Mr Klu said, workers were at a loss as to who actually owned  Intercity STC.

According to him, the workers were also not happy with what he called the “mismanagement of the company”.

On the issue of salaries, the agitated staff questioned why the managing director had increased his salary twice when there had not been any salary increment for the workers in 10 years.

They, therefore, called for a change of the management of the company, accusing the current one of mismanagement and incompetence.

The strike by the workers has left  stranded many passengers in STC yard to catch buses to various parts of the country.

Personnel of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service were there to ensure order.

However,  management of the company were not immediately available to react to the allegations.
