Ho Teaching Hospital, gets new ECG machine

The Ho Teaching Hospital in the Volta Region last Tuesday took delivery of a new Electrocardiogram (ECG) to augment the only ECG machine at the hospital in order to better manage emergency cases.

The machine valued at GH¢9,000 and donated by the Ho branch of Lena Pharmacy, a division of Lena Health Services, as part of its corporate social responsibility, was also in response to an appeal by the hospital to the pharmacy some six months ago.

The Ho Teaching Hospital initially had only one ECG machine at the emergency ward which had until the donation been reeling from undue pressure.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Lena Health Services, Mr Richard K. Odor, indicated that his outfit had received numerous requests from other agencies but deemed it right to support the Ho Teaching Hospital as a central point for specialist care in the region.

“This machine will specifically be placed at the emergency outfit so that all patients who come with serious conditions that need an ECG print out could be taken care of.

Many people who come here with heart attacks and cardiac problems need this in order for the doctors to know what exactly is happening to them,” he added.

Adoption

Mr Odor said Lena Health Services was also looking forward to extend more support to the hospital, including adopting its emergency centre in order to regularly extend sustainable support to better deal with health issues.

He said the Lena Health Services would support the hospital in the fight against the novel COVID-19 disease should any case be suspected.

“This request was made long ago before COVID-19 became a topical issue but now that the pandemic has become a threat to health care, we are going to help them with whatever they need within our capacity,” he added.

Gratitude

The Assistant Director of Medical Affairs at the Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr Lord Mensah, expressed gratitude to Lena Health Services and said the donation had come at an opportune time when the department was thinking about how to resource the emergency ward for it to function well.

He said the hospital had had good collaborations with the Lena Pharmacy and had most times referred patients to buy prescribed medications from there due to their remarkable services.

He called for more support from other benevolent individuals and organisations and gave an assurance that the new machine would be put to good use.
