Ho, Kumasi, Cape Coast recorded floods

Heavy rains in Kumasi, Ho and Cape Coast caused floods and destroyed property of some residents of those places.
From Ho, Tim Dzamboe reports that many communities along the Atlantic coastline in the Volta Region were affected by tidal waves when the sea overflowed its banks and destroyed houses, displacing 807 people in the process.

Communities affected included Dzita, Fuveme and Agbledomi in the Ketu South District.
The displaced people are now staying with relatives and friends who were not affected by the disaster because they stay at elevated or highland areas.

Displaced

According to the Volta Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Simon Miles Bakar, 807 people were displaced at Dzita, Fuveme and Agbledomi.
He added that 37 houses were destroyed at Dzita, while 38 were destroyed at Fuveme and Agbledomi.
He said many homes were completely flooded and others destroyed, with 10 acres of farmland with crops submerged.

Kumasi

In Kumasi, the rains exposed the poor drainage system in the city.
The three-hour rain rendered many people homeless, as their houses were submerged in the water, writes Emmanuel Baah.
A visit to Aboabo, Moshie-Zongo, Akwatia Line, Dichemso, Susanso, Ahinsan, Atonsu S-line, Kronum and the Airport Roundabout depicted a sorry sight as residents counted their losses in the wake of the downpour.
At Dichemso, some residents were seen salvaging what was left of their belongings after the rain.
Akosua Tima, a tenant, narrating her ordeal to the Daily Graphic, said she and her two children had to spend the night with a co-tenant because her room was flooded during the rain.
Dentle Ministry, a church at Aboabo, was not spared by the rain. Some members of the church were seen bringing out musical instruments and other equipment that were affected by the deluge.
At Atonsu S-line and its environs, many were seen drying their mattresses and bed spreads in the sun.

Cape Coast

From Cape Coast, Timothy Gobah reports that there was heavy rainfall in the municipality yesterday, causing flooding and destroying property of some of the residents.
At the time of filing this report, no casualty had been reported.
The heavy nature of the rainfall compelled some residents to open the Cape Coast Lagoon to ensure free flow of water.
