Help us establish basis for teachers deserting classrooms — Education Ministry

The Ministry of Education has asked the General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to assist it in validating a news story with the headline, “33,185 Teachers abandon classroom to seek greener pastures”.

In a correspondence to the General Secretary of GNAT, the Ministry of Education noted that the ministry was very much concerned about the resignation of 33,185 teachers, a significant percentage of the teaching force in the country.

A statement signed by the Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, Mr Paul Krampa, said in the light of the above, the ministry had requested GNAT to provide it with a copy of the research instrument applied in the survey, as well as the time frame of the research.

“The ministry also called for the raw data of the survey, as well as the method of analyses used which led to the conclusion that 33,185 teachers have resigned. In addition, the Ministry of Education has requested GNAT to provide the ministry with the list of teachers who resigned to ensure that they do not continue to be paid for work which they have abandoned,” it said.

The ministry also requested GNAT to share the conclusions of the research in so far as novel recommendations were concerned.
