This will comprise about 90km of rural roads and 150km of urban roads will also be constructed in that year.

The Finance Minister, Mr Seth Terkper, announced this when he presented the 2014 budget to Parliament on November 18.

He added that the government, through the Ministry of Transport, will also undertake eight engineering studies and construct 12 trunk, 20 rural and 2 urban bridges as part of the development of key road corridors in the country.

"In 2014, construction of the following roads will continue: Tetteh Quarshie-Madina; Asankragwa-Enchi; Kwafokrom-Apedwa; Buipe-Tamale and Fufulso-Sawla as well as the Dodi-Pepesu Nkwanta; Tarkwa-Bogoso-Ayamfuri; Agona Junction-Elubo; Anyaa-Pokuase; Burma Camp Roads; Giffard Road; and the Sunyani road in Kumasi," the minister said,

He disclosed that the about 103km of development works, including reconstruction, construction and upgrading of roads were undertaken against a target of 75km. The work done was about 138 percent higher than the year's target, Mr Terkper added.

According to him, about 13 bridges out of 30 on the feeder road network were completed while maintenance works were done on about 5,819km of trunk roads, 3,400km of feeder roads, and 1,193km of urban roads throughput the country.

He said the Transport Ministry had commenced implementation of the public private partnership financing model for the development of road infrastructure and hoped that the initiative will help reduce the funding burden on government.
