GNFS commended for transformation in operations

The Minister of the Interior, Mr Prosper Douglas Bani, has commended the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for transforming the service, which has led to the repair and use of over 18 fire engines that were grounded and earmarked for auction.

He said the move had gone a long way to save cost in terms of foreign exchange that would have been used to import new fire engines for the service.

Mr Bani paid the compliment when he launched a half yearly magazine titled, “Fire Watch”, introduced by the service at the Fire Academy and Training School at Jamestown in Accra.

He recalled that two months ago the service inaugurated a medical centre meant to provide services for its officers and men  in Accra, Tema, the GNFS Headquarters and the Fire Academy and commended the service on the initiative.

Magazine

Launching the magazine, Mr Bani asked the Editorial Board to embrace the tenets of good writing in order to give readers the best.

He further urged the GNFS to find ways of sustaining the magazine in order for it to become a regular feature on the service’s calendar as an effective means of disseminating internal information.

The Chief Fire Officer, Dr Albert Brown Gaisie, said “Fire Watch” had come to replace “Fire Alert”, a quarterly magazine which was not regular and was narrow in scope in terms of the information that it carried.

He said “Fire Watch” was national in character, wide in scope in terms of information and was more appealing.

Channel of information

The new magazine, he said, would serve as a two-way channel of information flow from the command to personnel and vice versa.

Dr Gaisie expressed concern over the recent spate of trapping and burning to death of individuals and families in their homes.
