He said according to the word of God, it is only righteousness that exalts a nation adding that but sin condemns any people.

Dr. Donkor stated that Ghanaian Christians cannot continue to live in what he described as ‘deliberate sins’ such as bribery, corruption, theft, and apathy to national development and pray for the prosperity of the nation.

He was addressing Ghanaian Seventh-day Adventists residing in Europe at their 23rd annual camp meeting in York in the Northern England.

Over 1500 members from 23 Ghanaian Adventists churches from across Europe participated in the weeklong meeting under the theme, “Forward on our Knees.” There were other delegates from the United States of America and Ghana.

Dr. Donkor, who is a Bible Researcher at the Global Headquarters of the SDA Church in Maryland in the USA, expressed the view that the abundance of national resources and the genius of leaders of the country are not the very key to national prosperity but rather the riotousness of the people that will exalt the country, adding that if Christians believe in the bible to pray, then they must also believe this.

He indicated that Ministers of the gospel therefore have a huge responsibility by not getting absorbed by self-passion but rather helping the people to live righteous lives and collectively exalting the nation.

He noted that there are a good number of Ghanaians who claim to be Christians and therefore pray a lot but their prayers are only addressing their selfish needs and therefore continue to do what is not right and questioned “how can the nation prosper with evil deeds of the people?”

“Ghanaian religious groups must pray and bring the leaders of the nation and people of influence before God and subdue their own selfish passion and help raise righteousness in the country.” He said.

Dr. Donkor was of the view that if the people turn away from the bad ways the promise of God which says he will heal the land and let it prosper will be materialised.

“Many Ghanaians consider themselves as Christians but conditions in the churches are not conducive for righteous living hence the long struggle,” He noted.

The Leader of the Ghanaian Adventists in Europe, Pastor Charles Asare Bediako, urged members to practice what the have learnt about effective prayer and prayer for the riotousness and prosperity of Ghana.
