Ghana’s envoy to UN receives scroll of office
President John Dramani Mahama yesterday swore in Mrs Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee as Ghana's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) at the Flagstaff House.

She is the first female to occupy the position.
A career diplomat of 25 years’ experience, Mrs Pobee, who formerly worked at the Ghana Mission in South Africa, replaces Ambassador Ken Kanda, who retired recently.
She took the oaths of allegiance, office and secrecy before she was presented with the scroll of office by the President.
Distinguished career
President Mahama praised the new envoy for her distinguished career and expressed the hope that it would tell positively on her new position.
He said he had an interaction with Mrs Pobee while she was serving in South Africa as acting High Commissioner and immediately noticed in her someone with a deep mind into which the nation could tap in other important capacities.
Task ahead
President Mahama said the UN system demanded quite a lot of work, adding that he expected Mrs Pobee to have a baptism of fire in September this year during the UN General Assembly.
He advised her to put her best foot forward.
The President also advised her that as the first woman to occupy the position, she had the responsibility to do something to prove that what men could, women could do even better.

Mrs Pobee said as the wife of a reverend minister, she would thank God for opening the gates for her to occupy that position.
She also thanked the President for the confidence reposed in her and promised that she would work hard to justify that confidence.
She accepted the President's charge to keep high Ghana's flag at the UN.
Mrs Pobee said she was inspired by the great examples set by Ghanaian women in high positions to work assiduously to justify the growing confidence in women.
