Pharmaceutical company, Unicom Chemist Limited, has donated a variety of medicines and medical devices to Graphic Communications Group Ltd's (GCGL) free health screening exercise in Adabraka, which takes place at the Graphic Clinic tomorrow.
This is the second year that the pharmaceutical company will be participating in the health screening programme, having first collaborated with GCGL last year.
Among the items donated are Hematinics – nutritional supplements and medications used to treat and prevent anaemia – anti-malarial drugs, pain-relief gel, and medical devices.
Others are cervical collars for neck pain sufferers, Accu-Chek glucometers and strips for diabetic and pre-diabetic patients to monitor their blood glucose levels.
Free screening, collaboration
Tomorrow’s Graphic free health screening exercise, which is expected to benefit over 100 patrons, is aimed at providing residents of Adabraka and surrounding areas with access to basic healthcare services, while encouraging regular health checks, early detection of health conditions, healthier lifestyles, and supporting the early detection of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol, which can be managed more effectively when diagnosed early.
The initiative forms part of the GCGL’s community-focused activities aimed at promoting preventive health care and social support among members of the public.
The support from the pharmaceutical companies highlights the importance of collaboration between corporate organisations and community-focused institutions in promoting the well-being of people within the communities they serve.
Medical doctors and other healthcare professionals are expected to provide consultations and treatment for common illnesses, while partner organisations will provide specialised services in dentistry, eye care and laboratory testing.
Opportunity
The Unicom Chemist's Marketing Coordinator, Dr Darrell Neneyo Amoatey, stated that the company decided to continue its support after seeing the impact of last year's exercise on the community.
“We saw great benefits from the programme in terms of helping people in the community, so we wanted to participate again this year," he said.
Dr Amoatey added that the initiative also provided an opportunity for the company to showcase its in-house products.
He explained that the company saw its participation as a way to contribute to community well-being while also supporting its corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals.
Vision
Dr Amoatey explained that the partnership arose from a request sent to the company by GCGL last year, after which Unicom Chemist reviewed the work being done through the health screening programme and decided to support its outreach.
“We believe in the vision that GCGL has. It aligns with some of our company's missions and visions, and we value giving back to the community.
"We take advantage of every opportunity to give as much as we can," he said.
Dr Amoatey added that the company hoped to continue the partnership and reach out to more beneficiaries in the coming years.
Appreciation
An Assistant Corporate Officer, Ruth Addo, who received the donation on behalf of GCGL, thanked the company for its generosity, giving the assurance that the items would be used for the intended purposes.
She also called on other companies to support the initiative, saying health care remained an essential ingredient in human existence.
"On behalf of Graphic Communications Group Ltd, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to Unicom for your generous donation of medicines in support of our upcoming free health screening exercise.
"Thank you for your partnership, generosity, and continued support. We look forward to strengthening this relationship and collaborating on more initiatives that positively impact society," Ms Addo added.
