Kumasi: Robbers attack mobile money merchant, kill one at Alabar

There was pandemonium at the commercial area of Alabar near Kejetia in Kumasi on Friday afternoon when a group of armed robbers went on robbery spree.

The robbers killed a 54-year-old onion seller, Nuru Fuseini, and injured four others who were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

They were alleged to have robbed a mobile money merchant of more than GH¢100,000 and bolted .

Indiscriminate shooting

Armed with guns and machetes, they shot indiscriminately to scare off bystanders.

Terrified traders and other people around had to run for their lives as the gunmen fired indiscriminately.

Eyewitness

According to an eyewitness, the suspects who were on three motorbikes went to the mobile money vendor and took the money from him.

They then went to other shops and robbed them of various sums of money.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased, who said he did not have any money when asked, was shot and killed instantly.

Arrest

Three of the robbers were arrested by the police around Santasi after a hot chase.

One of the suspects, named Hamza Nuhu, 22, who was shot in the thigh, is receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital under police guard.

Confirmation

Confirming the incident, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Godwin Ahianyo, said the incident occurred around 12 :10 p.m.

He named the others arrested as Salifu Iddrisu, 18 and Ali Razak, 18.

“They are in detention to assist in police investigation, while a manhunt has been launched for the arrest of the remaining robbers,” he said.
