The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Right Rev. Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, has expressed concern about false prophecies by some self-acclaimed men of God in recent times.

He said such false prophecies were on the ascendancy and called on church leaders to initiate measures to stop the practice if Christianity was to spread and gain roots.

The Moderator expressed the concern last Wednesday when he addressed members of the Presbyterian Church in Berekum in the West Brong Presbytery of the church as part of his working visit to the area after his induction into office, a statement issued by the church said.

Caution

The Moderator cautioned Christians to be wary of the activities of charlatans in order not to fall prey to false prophets.

According to the statement, the Right Rev. Prof. Mante also cautioned ministers of the Presbyterian Church to desist from such behaviour and seek the proper face of the true God and present the true gospel to the people.

Citing scriptures, the Moderator said when God revealed to His prophet Isaiah the death of King Hezekiah in 2 Kings 20:1, the prophet did not go and stand in the public place to proclaim what God had revealed to him but rather went to King Hezekiah and told him about the prophecy and advised the king on what to do.

Fear

He said prophecies in the public domain about the death of prominent personalities in society did not only bring the name of Christianity into disrepute but also created fear, panic and psychological trauma among the affected persons.

The Moderator urged ministers of the PCG to seek proper anointing from God and cautioned that any minister of the church who indulged in any dubious acts in the name of deliverance, healing and prophecy would be dealt with according to the rules and regulations of the church founded on Biblical principles.
