At a workshop for plumbers in Takoradi in the Western Region, the President of the Ghana Plumbers Association, Joshua Nyamavor, said the next level of the country’s development and job market required technical and vocational skills.

Plumbers, he said, had been part of the manufacturing and construction industries over the years and had seen the deployment of technology and improved materials for work. The workshop was organised by DPS Pipes and Plastics Limited, in partnership with the Ghana Plumbers Association for Plumbers on “Pipe Application”.

He said the work of plumbers had evolved with new ways of deploying a safe approach to domestic and industrial plumbing, and that the whole concept of plumbing was about delivering satisfaction to the customer.

Plumbing, Mr Nyamavor said, was a very dynamic profession which was practised differently around the world due to differences in climate and lifestyle. “Therefore, it is important for the plumber to be guided by climate and lifestyle with safe practices, as well as understanding the principles behind the trade,” he said.

Mr Nyamavor used the opportunity to advise the plumbers to maintain standards, add value to what they did, and embrace emerging trends saying, “It is important for us as plumbers to upgrade ourselves to be abreast of constantly changing technology and to be able to address the challenges in the industry”.

The Director of DPS Pipes and Plastics Limited, Puneet Gidwani, said the company was focused on solving the problems of plumbers for customer satisfaction. The company, he said, focused on problem-solving and creating new solutions for customers because “we are constantly in research to improve upon our services for customer satisfaction”.

The workshop was attended by plumbers in the Western Region, notably contractors in the building industry in the Sekondi-Takoradi area and students of Takoradi Technical University.
