Perseus Mining disinfects 5 communities
Perseus Mining Ghana Limited, operators of Edikan Gold Mine at Ayanfuri in the Central Region, has disinfected public places in five communities in the Western and Central regions.
The company has also donated assorted items, including personal protective equipment, to the beneficiary communities towards the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Workers of the company at the Edikan Gold Mine also donated a separate GH¢72,300 in cash for the purchase of logistical supplies for distribution to health facilities to support the fight against COVID-19.
Wassa Nkonya and Wassa Abenabena, both in the Western Region, and Ayanfuri, Denkyira Gyaman and Fobinso, all in the Central Region, were the beneficiary communities of the two-day exercise which tackled market centres, drains, places of convenience, lorry parks and health centres.
Safety
The Sustainability Director of Perseus Mining Ghana, Mr Edwin Allotey Aquaye, said the company operated in five communities in the Western and Central regions, and that the exercise was to ensure the safety of the people.
He said the company had donated N95 nose masks and other items, including hand gloves and impermeable hooded suits, to a number of district and municipal assemblies in the two regions.
The Chief of Denkyira Gyaman, Nana Boa Agyaako, expressed gratitude to the company and encouraged the management to help the government stamp out the deadly coronavirus.
The Ayanfuri Market Queen, Ms Afia Dede, said she was happy that her colleague traders had adopted the relevant safety protocols after initially protesting the unfamiliar new behaviours, including social distancing and regular handwashing with soap under running water.
Drivers’ income
The Local Head of the Ayanfuri branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, Mr Peter Asare, said they had suspended the collection of bookings from the drivers because the observance of the safety protocols had led to a reduction in their income.

The Municipal Coordinating Director of Amanfi East Assembly, Mr Bernard Sakyiama, said although the Western Region currently had only one COVID-19 case, it was necessary to intensify education, and commended Perseus Mining for the gesture.
