The deceased, according to the police was accidentally shot whilst police officers fired warning shots to disperse the mob that had massed up at the police station to demand the release of their colleagues.

It took the intervention of a reinforcement team from Akosombo to maintain law and order, according to Sergeant Gomado.

In a radio interview on Accra based Starr FM on Monday, Sergeant Gomado said investigations were underway and appealed to the town folks to remain calm.

“So they actually organised themselves and attacked the police. In the process, a firearm has been discharged. Accidentally in the process, the young man who attacked the station was hit by the bullet and he died.”

Sergeant Gomado said the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Atua Government Hospital morgue.
