NGO builds 50 boreholes for various communities
A charity organisation based in the United States has constructed 50 mechanised boreholes worth more than GH¢1 million in 50 communities across the country.
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity executed the “Water for Life” project along with its local collaborator, Team CSR, with the support of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

It is a product of the “Beyond the Return” initiative, which was a follow-up to the “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” for Africans in the diaspora.
At the inauguration of the 50th borehole project at Ayikuma, near Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, the Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President, Mr Kwasi Awua Ababio, lauded Omega Psi Fraternity for complementing government’s efforts by providing potable water to various communities in the country.
Mr Ababio said the projects were the result of calls by the government on the members of the diaspora communities to come home and help build the country.
“The private sector working hand-in-hand with government is the way forward. We applaud the good work that Omega Psi Phi is doing, and we know they will be doing even more,” he said.
He said water, as a basic necessity of life, remained an important element that every community must have.
Appreciation
The Chief of Dodowa, Okukrubuor Nene Tei Kwesi V, expressed gratitude to the non-governmental organisation for providing water for over 200 members of the community.
He said the borehole facility at Ayikuma would benefit women and schoolchildren who had to travel several kilometres to draw water for domestic and other uses.
He gave the assurance that the facility would be properly maintained to increase its lifespan.
The Chief Executive Officer of Team CSR, Mr Jonathan Akuamoah, said the initiative was established to half waterborne diseases resulting from the use of unsafe drinking water.
