MCE cuts sod for new targeted emergency projects at Juaben SHS

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Juaben in the Ashanti Region, Eunice Ohenewaa Ansu, has cut sod for infrastructural expansion projects at the Juaben Senior High School (SHS), aimed at improving teaching and learning conditions.

The projects would be funded by the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Trust Fund, and form part of the government's commitment to upgrade selected senior high schools in the country.

Facilities

The facility, which is being executed by Joyflux Company Limited, Geosmads Company Limited and N & J Slendor Construction Limited, includes the construction of a 3-storey 18-unit classroom, a Dining Hall with Kitchen and a 2No. 12-Seater Toilet Facility.

The rest are the construction of a 2No. Dormitory Block, 2No. 4-unit, 2-Bedroom staff and Headmasters’ Bungalows and rehabilitation of various existing structures to give a facelift to the Juaben SHS.

Conducive environment

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony at the school’s forecourt, Ms Ohenewaa Ansu said the project would give the school a facelift and bring it up to the standard of schools like Opoku Ware, Prempeh College and Achimota SHS.

She expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for prioritising education and working to ensure a conducive environment for teaching and learning in the Juaben Municipality.

The MCE urged contractors to adhere strictly to the projects’ timelines and encouraged the engagement of local skilled labour to help create employment opportunities for the youth in the Municipality.

Pledge

The Headmaster of Juaben SHS, Kofi Ampofo-Nuako, thanked the MCE and the central government for their collaborative efforts in making the project a reality.

Mr Nuako pledged to provide the contractor with the necessary support to complete the projects on time.

The Gyaasehene of the Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Owusu Yentumi, representing the Paramount Chief of Juaben, Daasebre Otuo Sireboe II, commended the government for the massive infrastructural expansion projects at the Juaben SHS since its establishment in 1972.

Nana Yentumi advised the contractors working on the various projects to desist from doing shoddy work.

He said education projects were important and must be durable enough to stand the test of time for generations unborn.
