I won’t contest again in 2020 – Kennedy Agyapong

The MP while addressing some supporters of the party in his home region, indicated that the reason for his decision is as a result of the maltreatment attributed to him by some members within the party.

He further accused the NPP of not defending him despite his commitment to the party.

“I have decided not to contest again because of how the party maltreated me. These people only used and damped me, and when they were done they isolated themselves for me to pick the bagged. If I look at my personal achievement and how I've been treated by this people, I won’t contest again.”

Speaking with Star FM, the Central Regional Secretary of the NPP Richard Takyi-Mensah says reports on the issue are not accurate. This is because the MP withdrew his decision on the same platform.

“The Honorable Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, did made such comment, where he said that due to some grievances that he had, he is not going to contest come 2020. But after he had made those comments and sat down, the aged in the community, women, men and the young guys all went to him and started crying, appealing to him that his the only hope that they had".

“And that he has done a lot for them as a member of parliament, therefore they were not going to agree to what he is saying. He got emotional and started crying. Later he went back to the sage to say that because of the love his people have for him, he was going to redraw that decision and re-contest  for the 2020 elections,” he said.
