GNA undergoes operational restructuring

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) has embarked on an extensive renovation of its two-storey Volta Regional offices building in Ho, as part of an ongoing operational restructuring.

The building also houses the offices of Graphic Communications Group Ltd, New Times Corporation, and other organisations.

This follows the completion of similar projects at the agency’s Upper East Regional offices in Bolgatanga in March last year.

A key component of the restructuring includes the renovation of the GNA headquarters in Accra, as well as the Tema and Tamale offices of the agency.

The General Manager of GNA, Albert Owusu disclosed this to the Daily Graphic when he inspected work at the Ho renovation project last Friday.

He said the renovation projects were meant to equip the offices with the appropriate infrastural facilities and gadgets to meet the demands of the modern and global news industry.

Although he did not disclose the cost of the projects, Mr Owusu said the operational restructuring of the Accra, Tamale and Tema projects was being supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB) over five-year period.

The projects, he said, included the procurement of modern mass communication equipment, staff training in digital media technology to enhance news services, and the review of the GNA establishment law.

He said the Bolgatanga project was made possible through financial assistance from Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd, while the Ho project was being funded by the agency’s “limited internally generated funds.”

The GNA General Manager expressed gratitude to former Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, and the Ministry of Finance for their pivotal role in securing the AfDB grant for the projects.

He also commended the GNA staff for their dedication and commitment to duty in challenging conditions, “with the hope those challenges would be addressed in due time.”

The state-owned GNA employs a workforce of 143 and serves as a key provider of news nationwide.
