GCB Bank, Ghana’s number one bank, has been appointed to play a leading role in the country's preparations for some of the world's biggest international trade and investment exhibitions.
The appointment underscores growing confidence in the bank's expertise in trade facilitation and international business development.
The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MOTAI) appointed GCB Bank PLC to the National Planning Committee and several technical sub-committees overseeing Ghana's participation in the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2026, one of the world's premier trade and investment platforms.
As part of the appointment, the bank will chair the Budget and Fundraising Committee, co-chair the Marketing and Publicity Committee, and serve as a member of the Business and Investment Committee.
The ministry cited GCB Bank's track record in Ghana-China trade facilitation, exporter development, stakeholder engagement and support for previous national trade initiatives as key reasons for the appointment.

Subsequently, GCB Bank has nominated its Head of State-Owned Enterprises and Afro-Asia Banking Department, Aurelia Baaba Ofori Odame, to represent the bank on the National Planning Committee for Ghana's participation in the China International Import Expo, a specialised World Expo 2027 in Belgrade, Serbia, and the Green X Expo 2027 in Yokohama, Japan.
The appointment places the bank at the centre of Ghana's efforts to showcase its investment opportunities, strengthen bilateral trade partnerships and create new export markets through global exhibitions that attract governments, businesses and investors from around the world.
Commenting on the appointments, Ms Ofori Odame said they reflected the bank's unwavering commitment to supporting Ghana's international trade ambitions.

Ms Ofori Odame explained that through the bank’s specialised Afro-Asia department, “We have consistently worked to bridge businesses with strategic markets, particularly in Asia, and we look forward to contributing meaningfully to Ghana's successful participation in these global platforms".
She said international exhibitions such as the China International Import Expo and the World Expo provided unique opportunities for Ghanaian businesses to connect with buyers, investors and strategic partners while enhancing the country's global trade competitiveness.
