The Ga Central Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has donated relief items to the recent flood victims in the municipality.
The event, which took place at the forecourt of the assembly at Antieku last Wednesday, aimed to provide support to residents in the municipality who were severely affected by the recent flood.
The items included mattresses, blankets, cups, bowls, basins, rice, oil, mosquito nets and buckets.
At the event, the Ga Central Municipal Chief Executive, Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, said that the presentation was part of a broader humanitarian response coordinated at the national level and a key intervention aimed at reducing the impact of the recent disaster on affected households.
Mr Allotey expressed sympathy to all individuals and households affected by the flood in the municipality.
The MCE said the move was an effort to support affected communities to bounce back and recover.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic in a post-event interview, the MCE, Mr Allotey, provided further details of the recent flood which affected over 11,000 victims in the Ga Central Municipality and caused extensive damage to properties.
He assured that the Ga Central Municipal Assembly would ensure that victims whose health insurance cards had been washed away or destroyed would be issued with new health insurance cards free of charge.
Mr Allotey lauded the Ga Central Municipal NADMO director and his team, the Chief Executive of National Health Insurance and the Ministry of Health for their prompt response to the call for assistance to the flood victims in the municipality when the situation was very critical.
He urged all organisations and institutions within the municipality to do the same.
