Eleven members of Homeland Study Group Foundation arraigned
Police have arraigned eleven members of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF).
They were arrested after the group declared independence for part of the Volta and Oti regions over the weekend.

In an interview with Accra based radio station on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Volta Regional Police Command, Col. Prince Dogbetse said the eleven will be provisionally charged with treason and felony.
“We have eleven individuals who have been arrested by the police. We had one on Monday and then some yesterday. All of them have been put before the court. They will provisionally be charged with treason and felony”, he said.
He added that the police has lodged a manhunt to arrest the leader of the group. “He is on our redial and we are closely monitoring… You know we are dealing with a very large number so it’s early days yet. But now the eleven that are before the court, well the court will make a decision then we move from there”

Touching on extra measures taken by the police to prevent the escalation of the situation, Col Dogbetse said they are on the ground, “there is no tension or fear. The situation is calm, you know the region is a calm place and it is as it has been. And we are not expecting any escalation”
Earlier this year, the separatist movement in the Volta Region, the Homeland Study Group Foundation, called for the secession of the area which includes Volta and other parts of the country.
The group claims that the area was an independent State before being made to join Ghana in a plebiscite.
The leader of the group, Mr. Charles Kormi Kudzodzi – popularly known as Papa Hogbedetor, was arrested with seven others when they first declared their intent at one of the group’s regular study meetings.
