EC features at Graphic Development Series today

The Electoral Commission (EC) has described the Daily Graphic as a national leader in credible news.

It said it was, therefore, not surprising that the EC decided to partner the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL) for the fourth edition of the Graphic National Development Series (GNDS) which would focus on the nation’s readiness for the December 7 general election.

The Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Bossman Eric Asare, told the Daily Graphic in an interview that the EC saw the December 7 polls as a national project which all well-meaning stakeholders must support.

With such a partnership, he said the GCGL, through its brands, would relay the most credible election news that would foster peace and progress.

He said the EC would use the GNDS to provide relevant information on the elections and demonstrate its readiness to conduct free, fair and transparent polls.

Context

The GNDS on elections is the last in the series for this year. The earlier ones focused on agriculture, health and education.

The event, to be held at the British Council in Accra today, is on the theme: “Sustaining Civic & Democratic Governance System for Development, Mandate of all Citizens”. It will be telecast  live on GTV and GBC Radio, as well as all social media handles of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd and by some media partners.

The development series is a thought leadership national platform of the GCGL, carefully structured to steer strategic national discourse away from a partisan stance to reach outcomes of a national character behind which the country can rally for development.

The event will bring together key stakeholders, including political parties, the leadership and other officials of the EC, national security officials, local authorities, traditional leaders and religious figures, to provide updates on measures being taken to ensure peaceful, transparent and credible elections.

EC’s readiness

Dr Asare said the GNDS would set the tone for a peaceful and successful democratic process towards the elections on December 7.

He expressed the hope that all stakeholders would attend the forum to be adequately informed.

He said the EC was in the final stage of preparations for the December 7 general election, having deployed 95 per cent of electoral materials to all the regions and some districts already.

He expressed hope that Ghanaians would also play their part to ensure a peaceful and successful general election.

He said everyone was talking about the elections because it was a national project that would spur the country on to greater heights.
