The Chartered Institute of Supply Chain Management (CISCM) has inducted 194 new members into the profession at its 7th Induction and Investiture Ceremony.
The induction ceremony, held at the Fanaka International University in Accra last Friday, saw four newly inducted as “Fellows”; 40 inducted as “Subject Matter Experts”, 88 inducted as
“Special Interest Experts” and 62 inducted as “Full Members”.
The ceremony formed part of CISCM’s annual activities to admit qualified practitioners and to invest new leaders who would advance the institute’s mandate of promoting excellence in supply chain management.
The ceremony brought together practitioners, academia, industry leaders and policymakers to recognise professionals who have met the Institute’s standards in education, experience and ethical practice in supply chain management.
It was on the theme: “Integrated Supply Chain Management - The Catalyst of Development”.
Call to action, pledge
The Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service and CISCM Woman of the Year, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, called on supply chain professionals to position CISCM as a driver of national development, institutional growth and continental transformation.
Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie said the profession must move beyond back-office operations to become central to policy and development planning.
"This occasion is not just a ceremony, it is a call to action. It is a reminder that supply chain management is no longer a back-office function, it is the backbone of national development, institutional growth and continental transformation," she said.
Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie stressed that while Africa’s economies were growing with a youthful population and abundant resources, fragmented systems and reactive approaches continued to limit progress.
She explained that CISCM provided the framework to align legal, operational, financial and technological streams into one cohesive system to ensure resilience, efficiency and sustainability.
The Director-General of Prisons said the Ghana Prisons Service was contributing as content developers for global use, demonstrating that supply chain principles could transform correctional institutions into hubs of innovation, rehabilitation and value creation.
She charged the 194 newly inducted members to embody CISCM’s strategic thrusts of visibility, acceptability, relevance and good corporate citizenship.
As CISCM Woman of the Year, Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie also pledged to advance women in supply chain through mentoring, coaching and community connect programmes that would integrate the Prisons Service with women in supply chain initiatives to benefit female officers, wives and inmates.
Commitment
For his part, Council Member of CISCM, Rev. Dr Emmanuel Apening, reaffirmed CISCM’s commitment to shaping Africa’s economic future and strengthening global supply chain excellence through professional development and integrated systems.
He said the Institute’s philosophy of Integrated Supply Chain Management went beyond the movement of goods and services to encompass the management of all resources needed to create value.
He indicated that each inductee becomes part of a global movement to transform supply chain management into a driver of prosperity and sustainable development.
Pan-African agenda, IFPSM World Summit
Rev. Dr. Apening said although CISCM is registered in Ghana, it operates globally with membership spanning professionals, practitioners and corporate players.
He said the Institute was driving a Local Content Development agenda to reshape Africa’s economy from primary-based to value-added.
In the country, he added, CISCM had partnered with the 24-Hour Economic Secretariat to support national prosperity.
He called on the government to establish the Supply Chain Council of Ghana to regulate the ecosystem and accelerate development.
He also urged governments across Africa and development partners to cooperate with CISCM to advance pan-African ideals.
As Chair of the International Federation of Procurement and Supply Management (IFPSM), Rev. Dr Apening announced that Ghana would host the IFPSM World Summit from October 12 to 18, this year, at Akosombo.
Activities will include a professional summit, business summit covering energy, health, agriculture, security, extractives and value addition, tourism summit, and recognition dinner to honour excellence in ISCM.
He appealed to the government, the business community and development partners to support and sponsor the global event.
