GHAMSA also intends to extend its gesture to the Police Hospital in Accra to assist it to handle the healthcare needs of victims of the Atomic Junction gas explosion.

The President of GHAMSA, Nana Kwame Amoah Nyame, who also doubles as an executive member of GUTA, presented the items to the police in Kumasi yesterday.

He said considering the risky nature of the work of the police, it was necessary that their clinics were stocked with medicines to cater for the health needs of personnel especially in times of emergencies.

The items cost GH¢53,000 and include suction apparatuses, wheelchairs, clinical scales, drip stands, ultra sound machines and pregnancy test kits.

Nana Amoah Nyame said the gesture was also aimed at building a strong relationship with the Police Service and to encourage them to go the extra mile in protecting lives and properties in the region.

The Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (COP), Mr Ken Yeboah, expressed his appreciation to the association and said he was hopeful that the items would go a long way to promote the health of the officers.

He added that the command had stepped up its operations to clamp down on criminals in the region, particularly in the Kumasi metropolis.

Last week, the police in Kumasi embarked on a swoop and rounded up 245 armed robbers and commercial sex workers.

Following a screening exercise, a number of them were freed while the rest would be processed for court.
