GAVA exhibition underway at the Arts Centre

A month-long exhibition dubbed “Art in Every Space II” has  opened at the Arts Centre in Accra. It is being organised by the Ghana Association of Visual Artists (GAVA) in collaboration with the Centre for National Culture (Arts Centre, Accra) and under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts (MOTCCA).

The exhibition forms part of GAVA’s annual celebration which brings all visual artists together to showcase their skills and talents.

It is on the theme “Regeneration,” and will till October 11,  display a variety of beautiful paintings ranging from landscapes, abstract paintings, and impressionism to sculptural pieces.

The President of GAVA, Mr Franklyn Nii Glover, whose speech was read on his behalf by Lawrence Kwaku Agyeman, the General Secretary, stressed the essence of the theme and touted that the exhibition is being used as a platform to stage a comeback request to artists to visit the Arts Centre and help in  its revival.

“As you know, the Arts Centre has not seen a lot of activities in recent times as far as art exhibitions are concerned. This exhibition is intended to open the door for a sustained effort in that regard,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; the Centre for National Culture and the Embassy of Iran for their support.

Dr Reza Bah-Sha-yesh, Cultural Consular of the Embassy of Iran and Mrs Olivia Opoku-Adomah, the Director of Research, Statistics and Information (RSI) of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, represented the embassy and the deputy minister.

Mrs Dzifa Abla Gomashie-Ahiaglo, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, noted the government’s commitment to the arts, which led to the  establishment of the 15-year National Tourism Development Plan (2013–2027), which is expected to enhance the contribution of the tourism sector to national and local economic development.

The Director of  the Centre for National Culture, Mr George Oppong, noted that as an organisation mandated to promote and support the arts, the centre would continue to partner GAVA to rekindle public interest in the Arts Centre as an attractive destination for the arts.
